Shoot out in Imphal

On the 23rd July 2009 at about 10:30 am there was a shot out at BT Road in the capital city of Imphal which is under strict security vigilance for the ongoing Manipur legislative assembly session. In the shoot out at least two civilians including a pregnant woman were shot dead and another five were injured. Leading to continued violence and indefinate periods of curfew.

Election Violence in the North East states

In the midst of peaceful election there’s some election violence in the North East during 15 LS election. The region had first, second & third phase of polling where nearly half of the polling booths identified in the three categories of sensitive, very sensitive and hyper-sensitive. Strong contingents of Army, central paramilitary & state forces have fanned out all over the States against any attempt by militant outfits to sabotage the polls and to ensure a smooth polling.

   

Temple and properties desecrated

The Statues of Iputhou Pakhangba and Ibenthou Nurabi and other materials belonging to Iputhou Laiming Koloi temple located at Heingang Marching hill (also known as Hannaba Ching) under Heingang police station in Imphal East district, Manipur. The Megalith inside the shrine was destroyed and dropped the Megalith to the pond nearby the temple.  The temple was donated by the effort of the people of the area under the active initiative of late Mutum Gandharsing Meetei in 1952. Since then, people have been worshipping Iputhou Pakhangba and Ibenthou Nurabi.

   

Child Labour in Manipur

Thoiba was a small boy from near Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district. He is the youngest of seven siblings and was among the child labourers .To misfortune of all his siblings, Thoiba's father is a ganja addiction while their mother is an alcoholic. All his elders’ brothers and sisters have been working in hotels at Imphal or as domestic helpers. Thoiba was only 11 years old, when he left home two years back and started working in a hotel located at Khwairamband Bazar Imphal. One day when Thoiba was working in the hotel, a truck driver took him to Shillong, young and innocent.

Women Domestic Workers

Domestic workers are those who sweep, wash, cook and take care of their employer’s every need. Many women are engaged in such work in order to earn a living to meet their family needs. But routine harassment and exploitation of domestic workers working for well-to-do families is increasing day by day.
